Description of the piece below
Inspired by my travels in Indonesia, this piece reflects not just the stunning marine life, but the deeper symbolism of balance that I found in Bali. Everywhere you go, you’ll see the black-and-white checkered textile known as saput poleng, which represents harmony and the coexistence of opposites — a concept central to Balinese philosophy. In Bali, the Rwa Bhineda philosophy teaches us that balance comes from understanding that there is no joy without sorrow, no night without day, and no good without bad. This concept is symbolized by the alternating black and white squares of the saput poleng cloth, reminding us of the harmony found in life’s contrasts.
In this drawing, the heart between me and my lobster represents that very balance — the harmony we should all strive for in our lives. Nature, with its perfect dualities, is often our greatest teacher in this journey, showing us that balance is everywhere, if only we take the time to look.
Whether you’ve been to Bali or not, I hope this drawing inspires you to embrace the natural balance in your own life and find peace in the coexistence of all things.
Perfect for: Those seeking a visual reminder of life’s balance, nature lovers, and anyone who believes in the power of opposites. If you appreciate art that blends philosophical depth with playful charm, or if you’re looking for a piece that brings harmony and a touch of fun into your space, this one’s for you.
